It loves forever
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Whether the perfect relationship, the perfect looks or the perfect career, our hearts always seem to seek satisfaction in the 'best'. There's nothing wrong with that! In fact, our hearts are designed to want more, and not just more of this world. Our hearts hold an actual deposit of eternal satisfaction! So it's no wonder that we compare where we are to where we want to be in life. But the secret? God has created us to yearn after all the things that only he can fulfil in our lives. So what are our end goals? Things we leave, or things that last? Why not take a read of Colossians 3 to redirect your heart, or Revelation 21 & 22 to get pumped about the eternal...
It's prettier than our profile photo.
1 Samuel 16:17 People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
Don't you just hate it when mean girls are hot!? Shouldn't you have to earn that kind of thing!? Well, all jokes aside, it can be easy to slip into contouring competitions and posing for popularity when we only take people on face value. The ugly truth is that our hearts can show beauty or ugliness that even filters can't fix. So often, people are attracted to immediate visuals and get left short when exploring someone's character. Now we're not saying that there's anything wrong with taking someone's fancy, or doing the fancying for that matter... but we are suggesting that God and those who see things his way, will be looking at your heart and character. How confident are you?
It decides our direction
Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
As much as we've all heard the cliché quote 'follow your heart', it can still be hard to imagine this particular organ as our course compass. In fact when it comes to planning our life purpose, we might pin it down to the brain or for some, more private organs. Now we're not saying our logical choices play no part, however, our heart is a direct indicator of what we care about. So as we plan with passion our paths are moulded. Other translations say that everything we do flows from the heart. So if you're at a crossroads or have found yourself far away from plan A, why not make a list of your cares (be honest now) to see what's truly making you tick. If you're proud of it, then plan away! If you're concerned, why not flick to Philippians 4:8 to re-focus.
